Franz Joseph and his wife, Elizabeth, were crowned on 8 June 1867 in the Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle, known then as the Main Coronation Church.  It was the first time a Hungarian king and his wife had been crowned simultaneously. The Coronation Exhibition, held amidst the velvet-bedecked columns and gilded furnishings of Gara Chapel on the 150th anniversary of the event, guides visitors through the key moments of the ceremony.  The exhibition features not only displays of original artefacts, but also touchscreen terminals placed around the chapel, providing additional information on Franz Joseph, Elizabeth, and the ceremony, along with a range of engaging activities.
